Ga Mashie Housing and Coastal Master Plan
In 2012, KPF partnered with the Millennium Cities Initiative in their efforts to eliminate urban poverty in sub-Saharan African cities. Focusing on the historic neighborhood of Ga Mashie in Accra, Ghana, KPF developed a master plan to combat the area’s slum-like conditions.
Through the introduction of basic infrastructure and new housing prototypes, the master plan will provide Ga Mashie residents with access to adequate housing, potable water, sanitation, electricity, and safe circulation. By improving housing for the community, the project also aims to reduce the environmental contamination of the coastal area.
With its process of incremental transformation, the project will hopefully serve as a model for addressing other urban neighborhoods in Accra and sub-Saharan Africa.
